I actually hunted for a straightforward GPS unit without spending loads of money. The TomTom ONE 3rd Edition is a perfect size in comparison to some of the alternative GPS units and the display is very bright and clear and extremely easy to observe in daylight. It took 4 minutes to lock its current position when started for the first time. The icons on screen are easy in use, the mapping is very complete, and the directions are especially easy to observe.
I took the TomTom ONE 3rd Edition with me to Las Vegas and it got me to my destination without getting lost. Displayed directions are clear and the interface is quite straight forward. Inputting your destination is very easy, route calculation is nice and fast. My only problem with the screen is that the automotive GPS system is a bit too bright during the hours of darkness and the brightness is set to its lowest setting.
POI was amazingly useful. You can search Points of Interest by Name, Category and then either look your present position, in another city or near your destination. I actually like the listing of Points of Interest Categories, incredibly helpful.
By and large, I am incredibly happy with the TomTom ONE 3rd Edition and would gladly recommend it to anyone.
