I searched for a relatively straight forward GPS device without over spending. The Garmin nuvi 550 is a good size when compared to some of the alternative GPS units and the screen is very vivid and very easy to see in the daytime. It took only 3 minutes to get its existing position when started for the first time. The menus are easy to use, the mapping is very comprehensive, and the countdown instructions are extremely easy to follow.
I took the Garmin nuvi 550 with me to Orlando and it got me to the exact address without any problems. Directions are clear and the screen display is pretty straight forward. Inputting your destination is especially easy, route calculation is pretty fast. My only gripe with the display is that the GPS device is a bit too bright during the hours of darkness and the brightness is set to the lowest level.
POI was extremely helpful. POI’s can be searched by Name, Category and then hunt locally, in another town or near an address. I like the breakdown of POI Categories, awfully effective.
Overall, I am awfully content with the Garmin nuvi 550 and would certainly recommend it to anybody.
